Great Baseball Quotes by David Wright, A New York Met with Indefatigable Spirit

David Wright was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1982. Discovering his love of baseball early on, Wright had an extremely successful high school career. He attended the Gatorade Virginia High School, graduating in 2001, and while there won multiple awards. His commendations included: All-State honors for three out of his four years there, All-State Player of the Year 2001, and Gatorade Virginia High School Player of the Year in 2001. He had made plans to enroll in Georgia Tech and study engineering, but his excellent record had him earning a position in the minor leagues instead. Clearly a superb young athlete, his statistics in high school had him hitting a .438 with 90 RBIs, and 13 home runs.

In 2001, the Mets recruiters saw potential in the young player from Virginia. They encouraged him to sign up for the 2001 MLB amateur draft, which David did. He was even more successful in his minor league career than he had been in high school. Wright took the time to hone his skills and received the Sterling award for best player. He stayed in the minors for three years, graduating to the majors in 2004. David Wright knows that striving to excel is extremely important for an athlete, “I’m always looking to improve. And every year I want to do better than the year before.”

“I’m always looking to improve. And every year I want to do better than the year before.” – David Wright

Joining the majors and becoming a member of the New York Mets, meant that Wright was lucky enough to fulfill two of his childhood dreams. He was given the position of third baseman for the 2004 season and his success as a player earned him the title of Rookie of the Year for the This Year in Baseball Awards. In 2005, his first full year with the Mets, he had unbridled success leading the team in runs, on-base percentage, average, slugging percentage, doubles, RBI, and finished second in home runs. Many of his records earned him a place in the top ten in the National League records. Not all of his statistics were great that year; he had the dubious honor of having the most errors by a third basemen in the major leagues. David Wright, a player who is always quick with a motivational quote said, “I take positives out of negatives all the time.” It is important to learn that as players, people are not always going to win, but learning from what went wrong and striving not to repeat that mistake will let you make the best of a bad situation.

“I take positives out of negatives all the time.” – David Wright

The New York Mets have never had the success that David wishes for them. In fact, they have not had a winning season since 2008. Wright has had other teams recruit him, but showing that he has true loyalty to his team, he refuses to leave. “I just want to taste what it’s like to win in New York” he says, showing his fans that what is important to him, as much as the game is the city and the people. It is that kind of devotion to his town that has his fans reciprocating the admiration.

He also runs the David Wright Foundation which provides aid and assistance for children who need emotional and educational support. One of Wright’s inspirational baseball quotes shows his outlook on life and could serve to inspire others, “Whether you have a great game or a terrible game, tomorrow’s another day and you’ve got to come out here and compete.” David Wright shows you that no matter how bad of a day you have had, the next day is a new day and you just have to keep trying

“Remember the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running.” – Sarah Condor.

Being a runner starts from a dream. It is not wrong to visualize what you are going to be in the future, because when you dream, you understand where you are supposed to go. This dream becomes the trophy of your own race and to win that, you need to keep running. The running process may be challenging but always think that running towards your goal is way better than sitting and wondering about what ifs. So instead of giving up, think about what urged you to run in the first place.

Motivational Running Quote #2

“Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it.” -Oprah Winfrey.

Having a goal is not the only important thing a runner should consider. The effort that you exert is just as imperative. This will determine where you are going to be in the future. If you’re the runner who lazes at stopovers, never expect to win the race. If you are a runner who feels eager at first then hesitates in the way, you will never get there. But being hardworking will get you that record mile you have always dreamed off. Therefore, stop faltering and urge yourself to push for the goal.

Motivational Running Quote #3

Runners may doubt if they really have what it takes to be a good runner. This may distract you from winning. To feel better, regard your situation as one of the greatest opportunities. Other people are aspiring to run but they don’t have the will to start. But, you are already running, so make the best of it.

Motivational Running Quote #4

“That’s the thing about running: your greatest runs are rarely measured by racing success. They are moments in time when running allows you to see how wonderful your life is.” – Kara Goucher.

Running competitions will not always end with a win. But this does not mean you should stop what you are doing. Learn to value the things you have underwent just to be part of the competition. Appreciate every sweat you shed and every muscle you stretched. Recognize people who have supported you all the way. The overall experience and the memories that the game have brought you is just as wonderful as the win.

Motivational Running Quote #5

“Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.” -William Faulkner.

As a runner, the goal is to win the race. To win the race, you do not consider the better ones. If you delve on thoughts about how good they are, you will always feel such a weakling. So what you need to do is to neglect those disruptive thought and ignore the competition. Concentrate on what you can do and focus on how to improve your weaknesses. Success is not all about winning the race anyway. It is also about how you managed to make yourself better amidst pressures and hindrances.
